Michigan State fans may be feeling disappointment in the near future, as it appears the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers are offering Spartans head coach Tom Izzo, their vacant head coaching job. The move comes in an effort to keep future hall of famer Lebron James in Cleveland after a disappointing finish to this past season. On James’s back, the Cavaliers faltered in the second round, as they lost in six games to current title game finalist, the Boston Celtics.
Fans and critics alike betting on the Cavaliers have become restless with the team, as they have had stellar regular season campaigns and lackluster playoff performances. Many have questioned James’s commitment to the team after the most recent defeat. However if the Spartans can pry Tom Izzo away from the Michigan State Spartans program, they feel, he can be the missing piece of the Cavaliers puzzle in putting them over the top.
Furthermore, Izzo has a strong resume at the college level as he has guided the Spartans to one national title, back in 2000 and six final four appearances in the past 12 seasons. In regards to joining the Cavaliers, the belief among experts is that Izzo was offered the position not only because he is one of the best coaches at the college level, but also because Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is a Michigan State alumni and big fan of Izzo.
However, betting on the new Cavaliers coach whether it is Michigan State legend Izzo or someone else will be tricky, until the team knows what superstar Lebron James wants to do. If James stays, one can feel safe in wagering that Izzo jumps at the opportunity, as who would not want to coach Lebron James? Conversely, if James walks you can guarantee management will have a difficult time picking a coach as, the team looks to be heading on a downward spiral.
