Tournament action highlights Thanksgiving weekend

Posted on 26. Nov, 2009 in Betting

The NCAA basketball betting season is underway, and there are always a couple of tournaments early in the campaign to warm teams up. There are two tournaments over this holiday weekend, and here’s a preview of them.

Old Spice Classic

This tournament started in 2006, and is held in Orlando, Florida, with Arkansas, North Carolina State and Gonzaga winning the previous tournaments. There is only one ranked team this year, No.15 Michigan, and they’re joined by Creighton, Marquette, Xavier, Alabama, Baylor, Florida State and Iona. Michigan should be the NCAA basketball betting favorites this weekend, but Xavier and Marquette have been known to give the big boys troubles. The Muskateers are dealing with a new coach in Chris Mack after Sean Miller left for Arizona, while the Golden Eagles are looking to build on last year’s second-round exit in the NCAA Tournament.

76 Classic

This event is even younger than the Old Spice Classic, going into its third year of existence in Anaheim with previous winners like USC and Wake Forest. This year’s edition features four ranked teams: No.8 West Virginia, No.12 Butler, No.19 Clemson and No.22 Minnesota. They’re joined by UCLA, Portland, Texas A&M and Long Beach State in what should be a very competitive tournament. The Mountaineers should be favored because of their high ranking, but every team with the exception of Long Beach State have a legitimate shot at winning this event. Don’t be afraid to take an NCAA basketball betting underdog.
