Who to watch out for come March

Posted on 23. Nov, 2009 in Betting

College basketball betting players have a long time to wait until March Madness gets underway, but there’s no harm in looking at who you think will be there in Indianapolis for the Final Four.

Kansas

The Jayhawks are led by guard Sherron Collins and center Cole Aldrich, who both made the preseason All-American team. They’re joined by Xavier Henry, a highly-rated freshman swingman who was supposed to go to Memphis before John Calipari bolted for Kentucky. Tyshawn Taylor and Marcus Morris will be expected to add production with the big boys. The Jayhawks should have no problems in the Big 12, outside of Texas, and this is a team built for a deep run. Expect to see them in many college basketball betting picks.

Kentucky

Calipari is trying restore greatness to one of the all-time “big” programs, and he may have the country’s best crop of freshmen in John Wall, Eric Bledsoe and DeMarcus Cousins. Patrick Patterson could be an All-American by the end of the year. The biggest obstacle for the Wildcats may be mastering Calipari’s dribble-drive offense that made Memphis a national power, and they’ll also have to get back on defense. They may not have the experience, but neither did the Michigan teams of the early 90s.

Texas

The Longhorns aren’t as big as their football counterparts, but given the NBA talent they’ve produced recently (T.J. Ford, D.J. Augustin, Kevin Durant), they should be. Avery Bradley is bound to be the next great Texas guard, and Damion James is an experienced banger who can average a double-double. The X-factor for Texas’ college basketball betting odds may be Dexter Pittman, the huge center who lost weight over the offseason. If he can help James in the paint, the Longhorns can challenge Kansas in the Big 12.

Purdue

Here are your college basketball betting darkhorses. The Boilermakers are tough defensively, and they’re an experienced group led by Robbie Hummel. E’Twaun Moore and JuJuan Johnson are a duo that could play with anyone in the country, and the backcourt is strengthened by freshman D.J. Byrd. Purdue is an big favorite in the Big Ten, and with their experience, they could follow conference counterparts Michigan State, who overcame the college basketball betting odds to reach the national-championship game.
